Hiking & camping adventure on Öland, combined with a sweet stay in a self-built Tiny House in Kalmar…
Öland is a place that I wanted to visit ever since I came to Sweden. This week I finally had the chance to enjoy a little hike&camp with my partner on this unique island.
Day 2 Mörbylånga -> Skogsby, 18km, 5h
We spent most of the first day travelling down from Stockholm to Kalmar and then taking a bus over to Öland. That night we camped on a grassy area close to Färjestad so that we can directly take a bus to Mörbylånga the next morning. We decided to hike the second step of the ‘Signaturled Öland’ on the next day as it follows the coastline for most of the time. Perfect for a quick dip in the ocean in the breaks!
The trail is easy-going with almost no incline and definitely suitable for hiking beginners or those looking for a longer promenade. Make sure to bring a lot of water in the summer season as it can get pretty hot on Öland!
Our goal was to reach ‘Station Linné’ - both Stf-cabin AND research station! They had an exhibition about local crops in the garden area when we arrived… We also grabbed coffee & selfmade cake and just enjoyed the beautiful weather :)
Day 3-5 Slottsruin & Kalmar
We took a quick detour to ‘Borgholm castle’ before heading back over the water to Kalmar.
There, we booked 2 nights in a beautiful Tiny House located on one of the islands in ‘Boholmarna’. It was built by the owner herself and we were absolutely astonished by the love and detail that went into the building process. The Tiny House is also a ‘bastuhus’ - a sauna house, as it converts into a little sauna tower.
We spent the rest of the trips biking, kayaking, swimming and had an amazing time!
Öland & Kalmar, thanks for having me!
My thoughts/tips:
-
Kayaking around Kalmar is a must!
-
Staying in a Tiny House with outdoor shower & kitchen is such a unique experience! Big recommendation!
Until next time!
Love, Karin
